=== Message From the PTA President ===

Happy Fall!!!

Welcome to the new 2022-2023 school year!  As we start the year, remember that our focus is our children…the children in your home, the children in our school, and the children in our community.

If this is your first year at PS 59, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to each of you.  If you are a "seasoned" 59 family, I know that you are as excited as we are to be starting the school year up again.

As I embark on my second term as your PTA President, I am looking forward to continuing the working partnership we have established with the Administration, our amazing Teachers, and our invaluable Staff, as well as community partners, to provide an excellent learning experience for our children.

I encourage each and every one of you to become a part of our team.  The number one reason to join the PTA is to benefit the children.  In doing so, you also help us.  But there are many more advantages:

By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.

By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences and personal confidence. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use, for a good cause.

The PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, attending the PTA Association meetings throughout the year to make suggestions, and providing your input.

Some things that we can use some help with this year are membership donations and fundraising events. Funds collected from those avenues support the school by providing school and grade-specific in-school enrichment, classroom supplies, books, in-school events, and much more.

However,  an easy way you can contribute right now is by designating PTA PS59 The Harbor View School as your preferred charity when you shop through Amazon Smile ( visit PS 59 Amazon Smile).

As part of the curriculum at PS 59, our children attend MANY field experiences. These experiences are aligned with their units of study and designed to allow our children to develop the skills of investigation, problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and creativity while exploring the richness of one of the most amazing cities in the world — New York City! It begins with our youngest learners and continues to grow up through the grades, starting with the student’s immediate neighborhood, then city, state, country, and world.

With your help, as well as our wonderful Title 1 PAC leaders and the administrative team we look forward to supporting: • programs like NYC Puppet Mobile, Maker Space, Harlem Magic Masters… • community building events like family nights with The Staten Island Ferry Hawks (baseball), health, wellness, and mindfulness interactive events The Harbor View School Learning Garden and environmental programs… •and so much more!

We also will have volunteer opportunities, to allow families to have a “hands-on” opportunity to help our school community. Opportunities exist for our Learning Garden, Let’s Move! 2022 Fundraiser, You Be You! and other events as they arise.
